After a strong performance last week in the Bucs league versus the St Andrews 3s, Edinburgh 3s were looking for a repeated victory. St Andrews came out fighting ready to contest Edinburgh in every battle. Eight minutes in and a great cross from Helena created a scramble in the box, which Fiona and Meghan both attacked upon to put the ball into the net. This lead was doubled only 3 minutes later by an amazing chip over the goalie by Meghan. Edinburgh kept the pressure up after this promising start. St Andrews reorganised and managed to keep Edinburgh out, even after a nice ball from Eva brought Fiona close. Then St Andrews built on this period of increased pressure to score and bring the game back to 2-1. Ten minutes later and St Andrews levelled the score through a well converted free kick. The game was now all to play for. Edinburgh reacted to this challenge, with the help of encouraging supporters on the side-line, and managed to create a few good chances through Molly, Meghan and Emma.
After an uplifting team talk by Coach Val, the 3s were ready for the second half. Five minutes into the half and this time Helena’s shot paid off with a cracking goal into the top left corner. This was what Edinburgh needed to regain their control on the game. Then the 3s increased their lead at 62 minutes in, by a goal from Captain Molly making the score 4-2 to Edinburgh. Edinburgh maintained strong pressure through a good period of possession following these goals. A crucial save by Fran in the 82ndminute as well as the strong substitutions of Sofia, Briony, Steph, Astrid and Maco made it a great squad effort to see the game through to a thoroughly deserved 4-2 Edinburgh victory. Special Congratulations to Emma K on player of the match in her debut Edinburgh performance.
Onto the next round in the first ever competitive match between Edinburgh 3s and 1s
