Tough Battle for Edinburgh 2s

On Wednesday the 18thof October, our 2ndteam travelled up north to play Aberdeen 1stteam. It was a nice, rare sunny scottish day so the journey up to “Aberdream” was not as dismal as usual. After a last minute goal in our 2’s match last week that led to losing the game, they were keen to take that frustration into the match this week and prove themselves. The team approached this match aware that it would be physically challenging.

The game kicked off and Edinburgh 2’s were not looking their best. Despite this, at 4 minutes in Hannah Wilson takes an excellent shot that, unfortunately, goes just over the bar. After 10 more minutes of pretty unimpressive play from both teams, Aberdeen 1’s managed to score making it an early 1- 0.

Hannah Wilson took another good shot which was only just blocked on the line. At 35 minutes Aberdeen scored a second goal. Just a minute later, Katie Kennedy took a cracking shot that was cleared of the line by the keeper at the last nanosecond. So this all led to a halftime score of Edinburgh 2’s nil Aberdeen 1’s two.

The second half kicked off with the 2’s looking a bit more alive in comparison to the first half. However, Aberdeen still managed to slip a third goal in at 52 minutes with a sneaky one-two play then shot. From this point onwards the 2’s had some good plays and some promising shots on goal that unfortunately were stopped by the keeper. Notably, Hannah Dryden had an excellent run up the right wing finishing with aspeedy shot but unfortunately the keeper got her hands to it. Katy Nelson made a lot crucial tackles in midfield, putting in 100% every time, and was rightfully awarded her first ever player of the match!!!!

Sadly, the final score was 3-0 to Aberdeen and after a warm down the 2’s headed back to the changing rooms feeling frustrated.

Taking the positives from this, the 2’s hope to learn from this experience and look forward to next weeks match.
