3rd Team Successful in St Andrews
After getting lost and accidentally taking the scenic route around the whole of St. Andrews, the 3s finally made it to their first league game of 2018. The game got of to a good start, albeit a little scrappy at times. Laila sent a beautiful ball from defense over the midfield which Vhairi ran onto and does what she does best and found the back of the net, 1-0 to Edinburgh! There were some moments of really good passing and moving, which saw the ball get up into the box numerous times. Naomi was unlucky to have a shot saved by a defender posing as the keeper, but despite Laila’s call for a “PK”, the ref didn't’t call it. Unfortunately, Vhairi was denied many more chances as she was brought down in the box and had to be subbed off. The first half challenge of 10 shots on target and a clean sheet was met. Back into the second half, some more pressure up top unfortunately doesn’t come to anything. A St. Andrews striker managed to sneak past the defense line and get a goal, 1-1. Edinburgh continued their fight, with more and more chances created but still nothing to come form it. Both sides get a few freekicks, and Edinburgh seemed to get corner after corner. Mona was unlucky to hit the crossbar from one which would have been a beautiful 20 yard screamer. Hannah had a shot across goal, which was saved, but Priscilla calmly collected the ball and sent it home, couldn’t have been placed better! The ref blew for full time as soon as kick-off happened, making Priscilla a true last-second hero! POTM went to Laila, who was solid as a rock as always and played many fabulous long balls. Final score was 2-1 to Edinburgh.
