September 2024 Competitive Team Trials
Each September we run a series of trials during Welcome Week to recruit new players for each of our five competitive teams. We also run a shorter set of trials in January for those who missed the September trials or who are only joining the university in Semester 2.
Recreational Football
Our recreational football programme is the largest in Scotland, with over 12 teams and 100 players signing up in 2023/24. Rec football is open to all players of all abilities, and is a great way to relax, socialise and play a bit of football!
SWFL East Edi Uni Thistle
Edi Uni Thistle, created as part of our partnership with Boroughmuir Thistle FC, is entered into SWFL East and plays teams from all over East Scotland every Sunday. We are always keen to hear from new players, and we are not limited to university students.
September 2024 Competitive Trials
Each year we run September trials to recruit new players for our four competitive teams. All trialists who sign up will be invited to trial sessions at Peffermill where our coaches and captains will select players to join our teams.
We are now receiving sign ups for our 2024/25 season trials!
Our September 2024 Trials will take place during Welcome Week (9th-14th September 2024) at Peffermill Playing Fields.
We will be running open sessions on Wednesday the 11th of September and Friday the 13th of September. Each day will have three slots (Wednesday is 12-16:30; Friday is 12-16:00), and you will only be expected to attend one slot per day. Ideally, you will be able to attend a session on both Wednesday and Friday.
To sign up for trials, please fill in the form linked below!
Please contact us either via email (football.women@ed.ac.uk) or DM us on Instagram if you have any questions about trials.
Recreational Football
Our Recreational Football programme is open to all players of all abilities. Rec football is on every Saturday morning at Peffermill playing fields, and involves 5-aside matches in an intramural league.
Recreational football is perfect for people looking for casual football, people looking to make friends, people who are new to football or anyone else who fancies a kickabout on a Saturday morning. Members of our competitive teams often get involved for an extra kickabout!
Playing rec football is also a great pathway for those who were unsuccessful during trials who still wish to get into a competitive squad. In the past, rec players have re-trialled and ended up in our fourth, third and second teams.
For more information on our recreational football programme, please click the button to be brought to the rec football page, email us at football.women@ed.ac.uk or contact us on one of our social medias.
Edinburgh Uni Thistle
Edi Uni Thistle was formed in conjunction with Boroughmuir Thistle FC as part of our partnership, and is therefore a development squad. We compete in SWFL East and play teams all over East Scotland every Sunday.
Many of our competitive team members get involved with Edi Uni Thistle as a way to develop, improve, play with members from other University teams and get in more football. Edi Uni Thistle has dedicated trainings separate from the University squads, and has players from university teams, alumni, and players unaffiliated with the University.
We are always on the lookout for more players to add to our squad. For more information on Edi Uni Thistle, please DM our Instagram (@ediunithistle) or email us (football.women@ed.ac.uk) and we'll put you in touch with the right people.
